Well, this one should ramble far afield. I mean sure, education should be easy right. We all think education is good, but is it? is it really, I don’t know anymore. I had a teacher in High School who used to say The masses are asses which has been attributed to Alexander Hamilton, if they could see us now.
It’s true though, My kids are out of school but… they stopped teaching so many things from when I was a kid in school to them. Did you know they stopped teaching cursive? My kids can’t even sign their names… well the oldest can but the younger two (5 years apart) never learned. Even funnier since I assume they stopped because of computers.. they don’t teach typing anymore either.
Shop class is also gone… and sure making a birdhouse isn’t a priority but learning tool basic and safety basic everything home repair related.. that’s gone now. Same with Home Economics, gone I took home Ec that’s where I learned to sew and cook from a recipe (we don’t use recipes in my house lol) both useful skills. You learned life skills in these classes. I learned to iron clothes, how to ground an outlet basic car maintenance. No more of this anymore
Civics, oh sheesh this one… Just my goodness. How we desperately need a civics class in school. I learned about our government, other governments. it’s crazy to me that it isn’t taught anymore, not really. One 2016 survey showed that only 26% of American adults could name all 3 branches of their own government. A 2018 survey demonstrated that 2 out of 3 Americans would flunk the U.S. citizenship test. How are we surprised then that people on social media are crazy about things they think they know because they watched a you-tube video.
Many things Aren’t taught anymore, critical thinking skills might be useful too, I don’t remember there being a class for that But we all learned it.
Finally Dodgeball isn’t taught anymore… Which leads me to the movie for the day… Dodgeball, yeah I know its “E” day but.. it fits in with the topic.

Oh my, one of my pet peeves too! Not every child is going to go to college and we need the basics back in schools. Teach them how to balance a checkbook and make a realistic budget.!

This! It really would be better than learning the periodic table of elements to make crosswords. (If not interested in becoming a scientist)

Thanks for this entry, we agree too, that every year kids seem to learn even less important stuff. This is really awful, and sometimes they can’t even remember stuff they learnt the year before!
