Jocularity – A Fun Word Seldom Used.

Recently I went back in time to an old black and white television set with 4 channels a time when Television had laugh tracks. I’m not sure why I wanted to do it, I think it was brought about by the passing of Sally Kellerman who was the original film version of Margaret Houlihan from Mash. Not that this has much to do with the letter “J”, this entire intro but it got me to Jocularity.

Jocular, thats what I am actually “given to, characterized by, intended for, or suited to joking or jesting; waggish; facetious:” Took that right from Dictionary website. Its a really good description of me though, especially the facetious part. Truth be told I had forgotten about the word. Until watching M*A*S*H again. Father Francis Mulcahy used the word several times, enough for me to notice and remember. When other characters were doing impersonations Colonel Potter said “Jocularity, Jocularity”. Father Mulcahy was one of my favorite supporting characters. he wasn’t Jocular, but he brought a balance to those who were. I could certainly use some balance.

We could all use some more Jocularity in our lives, and I personally could use a laugh track to go along with my antics. Technology is great now I could probably set an app to play a laugh track for me whenever I wanted it too. Lets all try and bring a little fun to each others lives. Today’s movie suggestion..,. well M*A*S*H either the film which is #54 on the American Film Institutes list. You can Watch the TV show to 11 seasons of mostly laughter. Thanks for stopping by.

  1. When athletes celebrate a victory too early, and end up losing in the last moments of the game, ESPN announcers call it “premature jocularity.”

  2. Interesting… I have never used the word. Thanks for telling about M*A*S*H… I really didn’t know about it!

Hope you check out my A-Z challenge posts in which I am trying to have every sentence of the story (one chapter a day) start with the letter of the day https://momandideas.com/
