Faucets – The Bane of my Existence!

Over the course of my time here on this planet one thing has always given me grief. Faucets, bathroom sink faucets, kitchen sink faucets shower and tub faucets and even the water spigot out in the yard has given me trouble.

That not really me… but It could be!

Starting with the (possibly) most annoying, the dripping faucet. Drip, Drip, Drip… house and hours, usually when I am trying to sleep. Sometimes you just need a washer. Of course at 3am finding one is a chore. I go to find one digging through toolboxes, jars of bolts, drawers, more tool boxes. Suddenly everyone in the house is awake, they claim I woke them but I know it was the faucet.

Next up is the Shower Faucet. Ah yes, the joys… Go to take a shower and wait for the water to heat up. Still waiting… waiting, waiting… Damn. So in to check the fuel gage for the oil tank. Half full, alright lets check the oil heater and the tank. Both are on, weird… Check the sink and that has hot water right from the tap. Now what? Well turns out sometimes the faucet on the shower handle decides that you cannot have hot water. Off to the hardware store for a part, not in stock, check two more places before giving up and ordering the part. No shower 3 days.

The sink… ah yes in the kitchen the faucet likes to leak underneath, filling the cabinet space with water. Time for a new one, simple enough to the hardware store we go. We choose one with a long neck to have more space in the sink and so the water comes out more in the center. Very graceful for a faucet, long elegant and, tends to get loose spraying water up from the connection. Lovely. The bathroom sink likes to loosen up from the porcelain. The entire assembly moves around right now. Someone tried fixing the drain… and had parts left over, the ones that tighten it to the sink part. Opps… (wasn’t me, really).

The outdoor spigot… well it always leaks even when it’s off. I don’t understand it, even in winter when I have the water to the spigots turned off they tend to leak a bit. Not enough to go ice skating just enough for me to look up whats causing it once or twice a year. Ten play around with it… usually causing it to dribble just a bit more.

You wonder what my point is… I dont have one except this, I hate faucets. (Im going to fix the bathroom one now).

  1. Yes, faucets can be tricky. I don’t like the ones that only have one handle. I don’t believe that you can get the water hot enough that way and I have to have hot water. Good that you can fix them yourself though and not have to get a plumber.
