Everyone I know has questions, some smart and some, just downright silly. Questions like, “Where is my Coffee?” Come to my mind quickly… and with some searching about I can usually find it. Then there are tougher questions such as “Where did look it up originate?”. That second one is harder. We know since I had my son look it up a few days ago.
It’s the thing to do now just look it up. When I was kid we had a nice set of encyclopedias to look things up in. The chances of finding out where my coffee might be or what look it up meant though, wouldn’t be in there. That is the big change between then and now the amount of information we have readily available to us.
Look up is from c. 1200 in literal sense “raise the eyes;” as “research in books or papers” from 1690s. Online Etymology Dictionary.
Those aren’t the only questions we have though. Everything is available online now, which begs a different question, why dont we use it? Anything you want to know about is available to you. Yet we all seem fairly ignorant of whats going on in our world. We are spoon fed by the media, believe all those ridiculous posts on Facebook, and cant tell the difference between what is real and what is not.
Here is what I want you all to do today… Find your Coffee, or beverage of choice, then go look some stuff up. Or go find an old dictionary in your house and read some of the older definitions compared to today’s. That’s fun too. Above all start thinking about what you learn rather than what you are told… First though, seriously, go find your coffee.
"Whatever you do, don´t stop writing, write only for yourself if that´s what you want". It might sound as nothing, but in a time in which I doubted so much about myself, it meant the world for me.

My husband is forever asking Siri/Google stuff. In the middle of a movie he wants to see the cast list. I’m sorry for all the encyclopedias that no longer get used.
