Todays A to Z challenge is brought to you by the letter “C”. I have all of the letters picked out already with few exceptions. However, yesterday I overheard a couple discussing something and I had to change todays word. For those of you waiting for more words my Mom likes to use… We do have four Sundays we don’t have assignment’s for, Ill use it another day. Today though we skip to customers… and the wacky things they say.
Older couple maybe in their 60’s were walking through a retailer talking about what they were going to buy. They were talking loudly so it was easy to overhear them discussing their shopping list. Simple everyday things, paper towels, laundry detergent… and something odd… Carrot Tops. The husband tried to direct his wife over to the produce section but she wouldn’t go insisting they wouldn’t be there. He’d reply that all the vegetables were over there and she would tell him he didn’t know what he was talking about and to “shush”. After a few minutes of this a helpful employee wandered by and offered assistance. The husband asked where the carrots were and the wife said, We don’t need carrots, we need “Carrot Tops”. I’m still watching this and a thought popped into my head… could she mean…
The Helpful employee had come to the same conclusion asking the lady if she were looking for batteries. She got a big smile and said, “Yes the Carrot Tops ones!” At this point I’m trying very hard not to laugh, so was the Kid trying to help them out, the Husband of course knew better than to laugh, but looked like he was going to burst trying to hold it in. Duracell has been known as “The Copper Top Battery” for as long as I can remember but this nice lady was asking for “Carrot Tops!” This is what I was thinking…
Carrot Top – comedian, actor, film and television star… Apparently also has the ability to power remote controls and clock radios. The kid helping the lady walked them over to a battery display by checkout and asked what size she needed. Her response, “I don’t know.” I walked away at this point, it was just too much and I didn’t want to hurt her feelings but in my mind im picturing batteries with the copper top being replaced with Carrot Tops face… maybe Duracell Should contact him for some kind of Marketing promotion. I’d certainly buy them.
I’ll see you all tomorrow for another episode starring my Mom and her loose interpretation of the word, “Dirt!”

Boy the real Carrot Top is really showing his age. This is a funny story and it is funny how people’s particular words for things can alter over time to where they believe that is truly what the item is called.
